About The Position

Responsible for assisting medical provider with direct patient care, performs clerical, environmental duties, and organizational compliance tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides medical care and information to patients to maximize their benefit from clinic services and conveys a positive image of the clinic. This role may require the employee to be on call and work overtime as needed by the clinic.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • MOA certification required
  • Attain CPR certification during the introductory period and maintain certification during employment.
  • Effective 2023, MOA’s entering orders in the outpatient clinic are required to be Certified MOA’s, despite location.
  • Any MOA hired before October 2022 is able to be certified or have completed CPOE education. This needs to be updated at the time of expiration.
  • Knowledge of health care field and/or medical specialty.
  • Knowledge of specific assisting task related to health care or the particular medical specialty.
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients/ families.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred or attended and/or graduated from training to become a Medical Office Assistant.
  • Preferred minimum of one year work experience in health care field.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care duties including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing exam rooms, setting up instruments, collecting patient history, performing screenings/lab tests per Medical Provider’s orders, assisting Medical Provider/Licensed nursing staff with procedures, charting, relaying instructions to patients/family, and answering telephone calls.
  • Assists with clerical duties such as sending and receiving patient medical records, completing patient referrals for diagnostic tests or specialist services, completing other forms and requisitions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, entering patient demographics, and managing charts.
  • Administers medications and treatments within the scope of practice, prepares for tests and surgery, and assists physicians with procedures and examinations.
  • Ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
  • Identifies, records, and reports any change in patient condition or adverse reaction to treatment and/or medication to the medical provider.
  • Receives and transcribes physician, FNP, PA orders as appropriate.
  • Documents care in the patient record.
  • Fulfills environmental duties including cleaning exam/procedure rooms/instruments and equipment for infection control, sterilizing equipment/instruments, keeping records, ordering, sorting, storing supplies, and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Orders patient supplies and completes referrals for patients.
  • Fulfills organizational duties including respecting and promoting patient rights, and following all Clinic Policies and Procedures and System wide policies.
  • Responds to medical emergencies, initiates CPR or appropriate action, and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the clinic.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
  • Performs preceptor duties to new employees and students.
