About The Position

This position is grant funded and its continuation is solely dependent on the availability of grant funds. The Medical Office Assistant serves as a front-line laboratory operator, responsible for preparing the testing room with proper equipment, performing blood draws, and conducting standard patient testing. The role also involves providing customer service in person and over the phone, and maintaining laboratory supply inventory. The Medical Office Assistant will fulfill administrative duties such as registering patients, answering phone calls, processing and communicating test results, maintaining a specimen collection log, organizing and filing results, and managing inventory for office and lab supplies. They will perform blood draws, order tests, and ensure accurate information entry, including conducting blood draws from homebound patients when necessary. Responsibilities also include disinfecting and sanitizing lab and office areas, processing patient charges for lab work using internal software, compiling reports, and distributing them. The position may involve relieving an administrative superior of administrative details like preparing purchase requisitions and transfer documents, preparing billings, and checking operating reports for accuracy and compliance with policies. Driving a City vehicle for City business use may be required. The role performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic math and money handling

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Six (6) months of educational training
  • At least one (1) year of experience in medical office assistant, phlebotomy, or health related field
  • Proof of TB Test/Screening will be required to be presented prior to employment
  • Medical Office Assistant or Medical Assistant Certification. Must attach copy of the certification to your application.
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
  • Selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
  • Persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities
