Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) PRN
About The Position
White Rock Medical Center is seeking a compassionate, care-minded Medical Laboratory Technician to perform routine and specialized laboratory tests supporting the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The MLT operates and maintains laboratory equipment, ensures quality control, and follows laboratory policies and procedures while working as part of a healthcare team in a patient-focused environment. The role includes testing across areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis; collecting and analyzing specimens; maintaining accurate results and records; and complying with applicable safety, regulatory, and privacy requirements. The position may involve shift work, including weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work in a team environment and take direction.
- Ability to stand and maintain fast-paced mobility for an entire shift.
- Ability to maintain balance and lift, bend, kneel, stoop, and wipe.
- Ability to perform work involving prolonged standing and repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work with exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and infectious diseases.
Nice To Haves
- At least 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred).
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP, AMT, or equivalent (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze specimens according to established protocols.
- Apply quality control measures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Record and promptly report test results to physicians and healthcare providers.
- Follow OSHA, CLIA, COLA, and other applicable laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
- Participate in proficiency testing and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Manage inventory and maintain adequate supplies of reagents and materials.
- Assist with training new staff and students as needed.
- Maintain accurate patient records and laboratory documentation in compliance with HIPAA.
- Provide customer service, communicate effectively, manage time, accept direction, and collaborate with the team.
