About The Position

The Digital Pathology Department provides continuity of care for patients of OSUWMC as it relates to surgical pathology cases that are performed at OSUWMC. As well as cases that originate at outside institutions and are now being referred for secondary review at OSUWMC. These services support clinical care, clinical trials, and research activities of OSUWMC physicians as relates to surgical pathology specimens and Digital Pathology Services. The Digital Processing Technician provides high quality customer service for the Department of Pathology. This position involves the preparation and processing of microscopy slides for scanning, as well as directing of materials to the appropriate pathologists and other pathology personnel. Responds to requests for diagnostic pathology specimens from investigators in Pathology and OSU Wexner Medical Center, Digital Pathology Scan Center, OSU Clinical Trials Office, pathology support staff and attorney offices and other outside requests. This position will respond to requests and gathers all necessary information for processing of requests; monitors and validates the appropriateness of individuals requesting material; ensures proper approval for use of diagnostic specimens, specimen obtained from banked on site and off site locations. The Processing Technician will record specimens/ projects utilizing Beaker and other databases for tracking various stages of completion. This position does interact with pathologists and collaborates with other pathology services i.e. Histology, Surgical Pathology on a daily. The Digital Processing Technician reports to the Manager Digital Pathology and takes direction from the Lead Digital Processing Technician.

Requirements

  • High school education required.
  • Meets minimum continuing education requirements.
  • Meets health surveillance requirements.
  • Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or higher preferred in medical laboratory technology or biological science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
