About The Position

This position involves performing a variety of diagnostic tests in various laboratory sections, including blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, and bacteriology/microbiology. Responsibilities include specimen collection, processing, testing, result reporting, equipment maintenance, quality control, and maintaining a clean work environment. The role requires courteous interaction with patients and staff, adherence to laboratory procedures, and staying updated on new developments in the field. For the Medical Technologist role, there are additional responsibilities related to training and assisting other personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proficiency and perform diagnostic tests in blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, and bacteriology/microbiology.
  • Carry out and initiate follow-up of organic and inorganic diagnostic tests.
  • Draw venous or capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients as required.
  • Package specimens together with pertinent information and arrange for delivery to reference laboratory.
  • Prioritize requests according to need and condition.
  • Record and check results of tests.
  • Ensure prompt transmittal of accurate reports and test results to physicians and nursing units.
  • Ensure proper reporting of charges and billing information for all services.
  • Complete periodic proficiency survey tests for unknown samples submitted for analysis and complete required reports.
  • Prepare and set up equipment for tests.
  • Assure proper calibration of equipment.
  • Perform and record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks of all laboratory equipment.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field of clinical laboratory procedures, techniques, equipment, and computers.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and orderly condition at all times.
  • Assist in work performed by MLT; orientation of all new personnel; training of students, and instruction to non-technical personnel (MT role only).
  • Operate within established control parameters for all laboratory tests (MT role only).
  • Ensure constant documentation and retention of all quality control data (MT role only).
  • Practice efficient economical use of laboratory supplies and reagents (MT role only).
  • Ensure adequate availability of required supplies and reagents and communicate to appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary (MT role only).
  • Has ability to learn and perform new procedures established in the clinical laboratory (MT role only).
