About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs routine testing on blood, tissues, and other body specimens and provides physicians with quality results using clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires understanding patient safety and laboratory techniques to protect patient safety and anonymity. This position is with the Core Laboratory at Memorial Regional Medical Center and is scheduled for 32 hours per week on the night shift.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification, or eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certification agency.

Nice To Haves

• Certification through ASCP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests on biological specimens accurately and efficiently, in a timely manner, and in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
• Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspections or recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
• Recognize factors that affect measurements and results, and take appropriate action according to protocols.
• Perform quality control for all testing and ensure established ranges are met before releasing patient results.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures according to hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
