About The Position

Under the supervision of a CLIA General Supervisor (POCT Supervisor), the Medical Lab Scientist will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of patient testing conducted outside the traditional laboratory setting. They will assist with the oversight of the daily operation of the Point of Care Testing program across various clinical departments and offsite practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting patient safety and efficient workflow.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software systems.
  • Knowledge and practice of all Atlantic Health and department safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates specimens and test orders for acceptability and accepts or rejects according to established guidelines, applicable to POCT.
  • Follows approved standard operating procedures.
  • Exhibits technical judgment by correlating test results with diagnosis and previous results as applicable.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
  • Validates, operates, maintains and troubleshoots all technical equipment according to approved standard operating procedures.
  • Follows quality control policies, documents all related activities, and maintains records of instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
  • Participates in proficiency testing, as assigned and ensures samples are treated the same as patient samples.
  • Manages inventory by rotating stock and checking supply expiration dates to ensure availability and compliance.
  • Assists with training of team members and students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of all Atlantic Health and department safety procedures.
