About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II in the Microbiology Laboratory is responsible for processing, evaluating, and performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures. This role also involves performing susceptibility testing within the Microbiology Laboratory. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • 2 years of Clinical Laboratory experience.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification in Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT) or Microbiology (M).
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology.
  • Ability to answer advanced questions about Microbiology from clinicians.
  • Able to perform blood parasite analysis.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of UAMS testing methods and the ability to operate all equipment in the UAMS Microbiology department.

Responsibilities

  • Processing, evaluating and performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures.
  • Performing susceptibilities in the Microbiology Laboratory.
  • Organizing and prioritizing workload.
  • Working independently.
  • Demonstrating technical expertise on various Microbiology processes.
  • Making critical decisions about results, QC and maintenance issues.
  • Providing departmental support and performing additional duties or projects as assigned to assist their supervisor.
  • Recording and evaluating daily, weekly, and monthly QC in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor.
  • Maintaining safe work practices.
  • Following all regulatory requirements.
  • Being familiar with all procedures in the department.
  • Engaging supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
  • Performing other duties as needed.
