The Medical Laboratory Scientist analyzes blood and body fluids using both automated and complex manual methods following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established guidelines. This role involves verifying routine results and quality control data, performing and documenting quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures. The Medical Laboratory Scientist demonstrates computer system proficiency, ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies, communicates critical results to patient caregivers, and reports unusual findings and work activities to supervisors. Additionally, this position may involve specimen collection, processing, answering telephone inquiries, instructing students, participating in quality improvement programs, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
