About The Position

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions within its laboratories. This part-time role is 32 hours per week and is based at the Proctor and Lakewalk Clinics. The position supports patient safety through specimen collection and processing and performs waived laboratory testing in accordance with accreditation standards and state licensure requirements.

Candidates must graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant program or complete Essentia Health’s internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within one year of hire.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant program, or complete an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens through venipuncture, capillary skin puncture, and other methods, including urine and swab collection.
• Process and handle specimens according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing.
• Perform laboratory testing when applicable, following accreditation and licensure requirements.
• Participate in training new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate.
• Follow Essentia Health rules and policies when handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality.
