About The Position

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant for a full-time position at the Moorhead Clinic. The role supports pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in Essentia Health Laboratories and promotes patient safety during specimen collection and processing. The assistant also performs waived laboratory testing in accordance with accreditation standards and state licensure requirements. The position is 40 hours per week, with a day/evening rotation.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant program, or complete an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens through venipuncture, capillary skin puncture, and collection of other specimens such as urine and swabs.
• Process and handle specimens according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing.
• Perform laboratory testing when applicable, following accreditation and licensure requirements.
• Participate in training new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate.
• Follow Essentia Health rules and policies when handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality.
