About The Position

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in Essentia Health Laboratories. The role promotes patient safety through specimen collection and processing and performs waived laboratory testing in accordance with accreditation standards and state licensure requirements. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position at the Moorhead Clinic, with a day/evening rotation. Weekend and holiday work is required; there is no call obligation.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant program, or complete Essentia Health’s internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens through venipuncture, capillary skin puncture, and collection of miscellaneous specimens such as urine and swabs.
• Process and handle specimens according to testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing.
• Perform laboratory testing, when applicable, in accordance with accreditation and licensure requirements.
• Participate in training new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate.
• Follow Essentia Health rules and policies when handling specimens and equipment to ensure safety and quality.
