About The Position

This position involves three rotations within Anatomic Pathology, including the Gross Room, the Send-Out/Research Office, and a Float rotation with duties such as digital scanning. The primary focus is on providing clerical and patient care support, particularly in specimen collection and processing. Responsibilities include patient registration, specimen accessioning, various types of specimen collection (venipuncture, capillary, sweat chloride, etc.), ensuring proper specimen preparation and processing, and performing waived laboratory testing. The role requires maintaining laboratory operations through equipment maintenance, quality control, and preventive maintenance, while adhering to applicable laws and regulations. Service excellence and quality patient care are emphasized, requiring adaptability in communication, problem-solving skills, and efficient handling of interruptions and changing environments. The position also involves participating in continuing education and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and inclusiveness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Technical skills, organizational skills, ability to multitask, attention to detail, and computer experience required.
  • Interpersonal relationship skills to collaborate with internal and external customers.
  • Effective in both written and oral communications.
  • Efficient in collaborative and independent work.

Nice To Haves

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, preferred.
  • CPR certification, preferred.
  • One-year of clinical laboratory/ medical experience and office experience, preferred.
  • Two years of phlebotomy experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Completes technical tasks such as specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, and processing, and specimen delivery and storage.
  • Performs clerical tasks and specimen accessioning in accordance with testing protocols and criteria.
  • Maintains laboratory operations by performing equipment maintenance, quality control, and preventive maintenance.
  • Performs waived laboratory testing, documents patient reports, quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting appropriately.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and upholds applicable laws and regulations related to position and laboratory operations.
  • Documents daily, weekly, and monthly tasks on assigned work area task lists.
  • Delivers service excellence and quality patient care through adjusting communication styles to adapt to various cultural differences, addressing client concerns by researching problems and identifying resolutions, using basic troubleshooting skills, and efficiently handling interruptions and functions with changing environments or circumstances.
  • Provides feedback that is useful and assists in individual improvement.
  • Actively engages in and supports efforts to develop an atmosphere of mutual respect and inclusiveness.
  • Participates in continuing education programs.
