About The Position

St. Luke's Health System is hiring a Medical Lab Scientist for its laboratory team at St. Luke's Boise Medical Center. This full-time role performs routine clinical laboratory tests used in the treatment and diagnosis of disease. The position handles moderately complex issues and requires solid working knowledge of the subject matter. The scientist uses experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, applying critical thinking and flexibility within established processes and departmental procedures. The role may also serve as a resource for lower-level team members.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a scientific-related field.
No prior experience required.
Must hold one of the following certifications: Blood Banking (ASCP_BB); Chemistry (ASCP_C); Cytogenetics (CYGT); Hematology (ASCP_H); Microbiology (ASCP_M); Molecular Biology (ASCP_MB); Medical Lab Scientist (ASCP_MLS or AMT_MLS); or Medical Technologist (ASCP_MT or AMT_MT).

Responsibilities

Perform tests on specimens accurately, in an organized and prioritized manner, following laboratory procedures and policies and meeting quality, timing, and regulatory requirements.
Collect specimens according to section needs, with skill and sensitivity to patient needs.
Ensure specimens are properly identified, collected, labeled, and stored.
Perform instrument maintenance according to section procedures.
Independently perform routine and/or more complex quality control, linearity, calibration, and delta checks on laboratory equipment.
Serve as a resource for team members on advanced tasks, complex questions, and patient concerns, as needed.
Maintain inventory of supplies.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Follow department policies and maintain required records and documentation.
Ensure input is accurate and complete.
Perform other duties as assigned.
