About The Position

As a Medical Lab Scientist at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center (SJHMC) in Phoenix, Arizona, you will perform complex laboratory tests and provide accurate, timely results that support patient diagnosis and treatment. You will conduct analytical procedures across laboratory disciplines such as hematology, chemistry, and microbiology; analyze specimens; operate and maintain instruments; interpret results; and perform quality control. The role requires a strong scientific foundation, advanced technical proficiency, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy and regulatory adherence.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA.

• ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform and report waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing on patient specimens according to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures.
• Correlate results clinically, identify patterns of bias, promptly notify appropriate caregivers of critical values, and complete testing within established turnaround-time limits.
• Maintain the operation of automated equipment through required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting, including contacting instrument vendors for assistance or repair.
• Perform required calibration and quality-control procedures and maintain records to ensure testing remains within established parameters.
• Perform assigned proficiency testing and review results with laboratory clinical leaders.
• Assist in evaluating and preparing compliant documentation to validate new procedures and equipment.
