About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs routine testing on blood, tissues, and other body specimens and provides physicians with quality results using clinical laboratory equipment. The role requires understanding patient safety and laboratory techniques to protect patient safety and anonymity. This position is in the Core Laboratory at Perrysburg Medical Center and is scheduled for 15 hours per week on the night shift.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry through a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification, or eligibility for certification, through a nationally recognized certification agency.

Nice To Haves

• Certification through ASCP is preferred.
• Completion of an externship program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
• Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspection and recognition of abnormal or unusual results.
• Recognize factors that affect measurements and results, and take appropriate action according to protocols.
• Perform quality control for testing and meet established ranges before releasing patient results.
• Maintain a safe and efficient work environment by checking equipment, cleaning the work area, monitoring temperatures according to hospital policies, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
