Medical Lab Scientist (MLS)
About The Position
Performs a variety of laboratory tests on blood, tissue, and body fluids using automated and manual methods. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of laboratory test results to assist medical staff in patient care. Processes and tests laboratory specimens, reviews and reports results, and performs operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment. Serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel and assists with equipment validation and implementation, employee training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree from an approved college or university, and/or graduation from an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent qualifications such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or qualification at the Medical Technologist level through a satisfactory HHS examination or equivalent before 2/28/92, as described in 42 CFR 493.1491.
- Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required.
Nice To Haves
- Six months to one year of medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist experience in an acute care facility.
Responsibilities
- Process and test all types of laboratory specimens.
- Review and report laboratory results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
- Assist with new equipment validation and implementation.
- Assist with employee training and competency assessment.
- Perform regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB, or other agencies.
- Support quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
