About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist I works within the flow cytometry department to conduct testing, specimen processing, and analysis. The role includes analyzing specimens using approved testing procedures, reviewing and releasing test results, and maintaining records in accordance with laboratory procedures and applicable guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least 1 year of flow cytometry experience required.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 1 to 10 pounds frequently, 11 to 25 pounds occasionally, and 36 to 50 pounds seldomly.
• Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods and engage in frequent walking and standing.
• Ability to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring significant manual dexterity.

Nice To Haves

• Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry strongly preferred.
• At least 1 year of clinical experience performing high-complexity testing preferred.
• Experience with LC-MS or ICP-MS strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient test-result records.
• Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
• Review and release test results.
• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
• Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting, correct them, or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
