Medical Lab Scientist I - PRN
About The Position
Saint Luke’s North Hospital is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to join its laboratory team. The laboratory uses advanced instrumentation, including the Sysmex XN1000, Stago Compact Max, Atellica, GEM, UN2000, and Echo. Laboratory staff have a window view and flexible 12-hour shift scheduling. This is a PRN position with 12-hour shifts running from 6 to 6:30, on days and nights. The scientist performs accurate and reliable analyses on patient samples, investigates technical, instrument, and clinical correlation problems, verifies results, interprets data in the context of physiological conditions, monitors quality assurance programs, and participates in performance improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Less than one year of laboratory experience.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). New graduates must pass the certification board exam within nine months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and reliable analyses on a variety of patient samples.
- Recognize technical, instrument, or clinical correlation problems; identify causes and evaluate alternative solutions.
- Confirm and verify laboratory results using in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments.
- Correlate and interpret data based on knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results.
- Establish and monitor quality assurance programs.
- Participate in performance improvement programs.
