About The Position
Under the supervision of the Technical Supervisor and Shift Supervisor, the Medical Lab Scientist performs laboratory tests to obtain data used in diagnosing and treating disease. The role follows hospital and laboratory policies, guidelines, procedures, and protocols, and may assume charge duties when a supervisor is absent. This PRN position supports the LWR ER laboratory on the day shift, one day per week, working 12-hour shifts and covering vacations and call-outs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a health science program or medical laboratory science; at least five years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- Current Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) license under Chapter 483, Part IV, Florida Statute: 61F-5, or obtain the license within 90 days of hire. Limited scope of practice applies until licensure is obtained; results entry will not be performed during that period.
- Employees hired before January 1, 2009, are grandfathered into this position.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of clinical laboratory experience.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications and office tools.
- Qualification as an ASCP, AMT, NCA, or equivalent medical laboratory scientist.
Responsibilities
