About The Position
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking a Medical Lab Assistant for the Cytology Lab. This department is comprised of disease-specific pathologists, molecular diagnosticians, clinical laboratory testing experts, educators, and researchers focused on adult and pediatric cancers. Faculty collaborate with oncologists and surgeons to personalize patient treatment and develop new diagnostic tests. The Medical Lab Assistant will play a key role in supporting the lab's operations.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Laboratory Assistant or related job.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Eager to learn
- Strong attention to detail
- Great communication
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Reviews order entry and verifies accuracy of corresponding specimens.
- Enters required data into the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Files/retrieves microscopic slides and paraffin blocks and maintains them in an organized manner.
- Pulls specimen containers designated for additional testing.
- Opens monthly standing orders and records items in the inventory logbook.
- Maintains an organized supply area to ensure easy access to reagents, chemicals, and supplies.
- Contributes to the upkeep and safety of the laboratory.
- Assures a clean, safe, adequately supplied work area.
