About The Position

Join Southcoast Health, a not-for-profit, charitable, health system with multiple hospitals, clinics and facilities throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We are searching for a talented Laboratory Assistant-Cytology to join our team. This role is crucial for supporting the Cytology section of the Pathology Laboratory by performing various clerical, technical, and related duties. You will be responsible for accessioning cytology specimens, preparing them for microscopic examination, and ensuring laboratory equipment is maintained and supplies are stocked. Requirements

Successful completion of High School or equivalency required.
Up to and including one year experience.
Combination of education and experience as a microbiology specimen processor/lab assistant equivalent for at least 6 months accepted.
Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired.

Nice To Haves

Certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

Accessioning of cytology specimens in the LIS.
Performing procedures according to established policy for preparing specimens for microscopic examination, including specimen processing and staining.
Ensuring laboratory equipment is properly maintained and supplies are adequately stocked.
Assisting with slide filing and tissue processors in the Histology section as needed.
