About The Position

The Medical Imaging Assistant plays a vital role in supporting technologists and nurses within the department. This position involves performing non-technical, patient and procedure-related duties in accordance with department and facility policies. Additionally, the role encompasses a variety of clerical, administrative support functions, and customer service for an assigned patient care area, contributing to an organized and efficient delivery of care. The facility is a new, three-story building opening in early 2027, consolidating services like cancer care, cardiovascular care, medical and surgical specialties, neurosciences, specialty pharmacy, imaging, and urgent care. This integrated care environment is designed for collaboration, technology, and a coordinated patient experience, making it easier for patients to access and navigate services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Certification for BLS is required.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to use discretion with patients, staff, and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Knowledge of commonly used office software.
  • Keyboarding skills.
  • Good organizational skills are essential in prioritizing and coordinating various responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle ongoing face-to-face contact with patients and staff while functioning in a busy medical office environment.
  • Must complete Banner’s peripheral IV insertion course and validation of skill prior to any peripheral IV insertion and discontinuation.
  • Must complete Banner’s POCT education and validation of skill prior to any Point of Care Testing being performed.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a transporter, EMT, and/or nursing assistant.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Previous experience working with electronic medical records and insurance.
  • Knowledge of filing and/or retrieval systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam rooms for medical imaging procedures.
  • Call back patients and assist them with changing before exams.
  • Perform IV insertions and disconnections.
  • Assist with patient care coordination, including scheduling appointments.
  • Handle lab specimens.
  • Retrieve prior imaging studies.
  • Greet patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls.
  • Enter orders and provide general information to customers.
  • Participate in customer problem resolution or collect data for follow-up.
  • Enter patient information into the computer and scan documents into PACS.
  • Maintain complete patient records, including admission, transfer, and discharge information, progress notes, and consent forms.
  • Ensure all reports and chart forms are scanned or filed into the patient’s record.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of frequently used patient education materials.
  • Facilitate requests for patient medical records.
  • Acquire and distribute digital patient records.
  • Digitize, format, and upload film-based or digital images into PACS.
  • Maintain an accurate filing system.
  • Fulfill requests for images and reports, ensuring availability in system, hard copy, or CD.
  • Receive patients in applicable systems, confirm demographics and insurance information, and perform insurance verification.
  • Calculate and collect copays, deductibles, and self-pay amounts.
  • Total charges on patient’s super-bill at check-out.
  • Enter pending discharges into the system.
  • Coordinate patient appointments for procedures and treatments.
  • Process patient discharges.
  • Coordinate transportation to care centers and residential homes.
  • Print physician schedules, super-bills, labels, and other applicable forms.
  • Pull and file patient charts and prepare new patient charts.
  • Print and file transcription notes.
  • Reconcile charge tickets to the day's schedule and notify clinical staff of discrepancies.
  • Forward completed tickets and/or billing packages to the business office or billing company.
  • Assist technologists and nurses in pre and post-procedure room preparation by obtaining necessary supplies and assisting patients.
  • Ensure procedure rooms are stocked appropriately.
  • Assist with setting up sterile trays, where applicable.
  • Adhere to radiation safety policies.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, take vitals, and obtain patient history.
  • Assist with patient treatment, including peripheral IV insertion, IV discontinuation, and Point of Care Testing (POCT) if required.
  • Maintain adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies and complete requisition forms.
  • Reconcile supply orders upon delivery.
