About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Medical Dosimetrist for a full-time position supporting the Fort Worth Cancer Center. Working in collaboration with radiation oncologists and medical physicists, the dosimetrist uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop, generate, and evaluate radiation therapy treatment plans. Plans are based on prescribed target regions and avoidance dose criteria and may use patient imaging modalities registered to planning images to identify physician-delineated target and critical structures. The role also supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including its Code of Ethics and Business Standards. The position involves creating and documenting treatment plans and quality assurance activities, communicating plan details and implementation requirements to physicians and staff, and adapting to changing technology. Depending on qualifications, credentialing, and assignment, the dosimetrist may also assist with brachytherapy, equipment and treatment-planning-system quality assurance, radiation protection, and teaching students and residents.

  • Perform patient-specific quality assurance activities under the direction of the medical physicist.
  • Complete treatment plans accurately and in a timely manner based on their complexity.
  • Adapt to changing technology and learn new systems and techniques.
  • Perform or assist with planning the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices, and assist or consult during treatment simulations as necessary and in accordance with state laws.
  • Communicate plan details effectively with physicians and staff and offer alternative solutions when appropriate.
  • Consult with therapist staff about implementing treatment plans, including immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangements, and other treatment variables.
  • Accurately document treatment-planning and quality-assurance tasks.
  • Transfer treatment plans, treatment parameters, field DRRs, setup photos, and notes to the ROIS record-and-verify system; may also understand the transfer process and verify information after transfer.
  • May enter codes for technical treatment-planning and quality-assurance tasks.
  • May perform general computerized tasks, including word processing, spreadsheet use, file and directory management, and data backup.
  • May assist with intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures and subsequent manual or computer dose-distribution calculations after appropriate credentialing by the medical physicist.
  • May perform quality assurance procedures on the treatment-planning system, linear accelerator, and brachytherapy device under the medical physicist’s supervision.
  • May perform radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and radiation oncology equipment quality assurance under the medical physicist’s supervision.
