About The Position

The Medical Director provides strategic oversight and clinical leadership for all medical services at University Health Services (UHS), a nationally accredited, multispecialty, outpatient healthcare organization. This department has an operating budget of approximately $9.2 million and is guided by a multidisciplinary team of over 50 clinical professionals, including 14 direct reports. The Medical Director plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, student-centered care, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring alignment with best practices in college health. The position also involves direct patient care for UO students and serves as a consultative resource for other clinical areas. Additionally, the Medical Director acts as a key liaison to the broader University of Oregon community and local medical partners, collaborating with campus stakeholders to support holistic student wellness. This role requires a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and belonging, with an emphasis on recruiting a diverse candidate pool. The position is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists, as well as compliance with UHS immunization requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school.
  • M.D. or D.O. licensure by the Oregon Medical Board, or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date of employment.
  • Valid Drug Enforcement Administration certification for prescription of controlled substances, or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date of employment.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification, or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date of employment.
  • Maintains ABMS-approved board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in using practice management software.
  • Ability to provide culturally appropriate care for a diverse college population.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in college health care at a large public institution.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary, highly matrixed healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic oversight and clinical leadership for all medical services.
  • Guides a multidisciplinary team of over 50 clinical professionals, including 14 direct reports, to deliver high-quality, student-centered care.
  • Functions as a mentor, consultant, and leader for physicians, advanced care providers, nurses, and ancillary staff.
  • Champions evidence-based clinical excellence and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensures alignment with best practices in college health.
  • Works with the Executive Team of UHS to maintain an engaging, collaborative, and productive working environment for all staff.
  • Provides direct care to UO students.
  • Serves in a consultative role for other areas of clinical care such as physical therapy, dental, pharmacy, lab, and radiology.
  • Acts as a key liaison to the broader University of Oregon community and local medical partners.
  • Collaborates closely with campus stakeholders, including Student Life partners and University Housing, to support holistic student wellness.
