About The Position

NaphCare is seeking an experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to provide clinical leadership at the Mobile County Jail in Mobile, Alabama. This opportunity is available Full-Time or PRN, offering flexibility for physicians seeking a long-term leadership role or an opportunity that complements their current practice. As Medical Director, you will provide clinical oversight for a diverse and medically complex patient population while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary healthcare team. You will guide clinical decision-making, support advanced practice providers and nursing leadership, and promote high-quality, evidence-based care. Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
  • Current, unrestricted physician license in the State of Alabama
  • Current DEA Registration
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA required)
  • Board Certified by a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience directing physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Strong clinical background with knowledge of current medical practices, evidence-based medicine, and quality improvement principles
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of applicable healthcare laws, correctional healthcare standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and protected health information
  • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and adherence to NaphCare's Code of Conduct and all correctional healthcare policies and procedures
  • Must successfully pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight while delivering high-quality medical care and ensuring healthcare services meet all applicable clinical, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Conducting rounds in the medical and infirmary units
  • Performing sick call visits and managing chronic care
  • Responding to and initiating care for medical emergencies
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives to evaluate and enhance healthcare services
  • Coordinating, leading, and participating in educational and training activities
  • Supervising Staff Physicians and other medical personnel
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations, including court mandates and accreditation standards
  • Collaborating with nursing leadership, correctional staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional patient care
  • Supporting operational excellence through effective clinical leadership, communication, and teamwork
