About The Position

Herndon Solutions Group (HSG) is seeking an experienced Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and oversight for the Occupational Health Program supporting NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) in Cleveland, Ohio. This is an opportunity to lead a comprehensive occupational health program supporting the health, safety, and readiness of the workforce behind some of NASA’s most important research and mission activities. We’re looking for a physician who brings strong clinical judgment, occupational health expertise, and a collaborative leadership style- and who is excited about applying that experience in a unique federal research and aerospace environment.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Current unrestricted physician license in the State of Ohio.
  • Board Certified in Preventive Medicine or a Primary Care specialty.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of physician experience, preferably in Occupational Medicine.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing clinical programs or multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Experience with occupational health regulations, workers' compensation, medical surveillance, and return-to-work programs.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • Current DEA registration

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certification in Occupational Medicine.
  • Prior experience supporting federal agencies or government contractors.
  • Knowledge of NASA Occupational Health Programs.
  • Experience supporting industrial, aerospace, manufacturing, or research environments.
  • Experience leading quality assurance and accreditation activities.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and federal occupational health regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Medical Director for the NASA Glenn Research Center Occupational Health Program.
  • Provide clinical leadership and physician oversight for occupational medicine services.
  • Supervise and mentor clinical staff, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nursing personnel.
  • Ensure high standards of clinical care and evidence-based medical practice.
  • Perform and oversee occupational medical evaluations, medical surveillance examinations, and fitness-for-duty assessments.
  • Evaluate and treat occupational injuries and illnesses and provide return-to-work recommendations, work restrictions, and medical guidance.
  • Review medical information related to reasonable accommodations and consult on job-specific medical requirements.
  • Identify workplace health trends and recommend preventive measures to improve employee health and safety.
  • Lead the Medical Quality Assurance Program, ensuring compliance with NASA policies, HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, and occupational health protocols.
  • Support internal and external audits, Occupational Health Program reviews, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide medical leadership for emergency response planning, pandemic preparedness, and mass casualty planning.
  • Oversee the NASA Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Program, including medical protocols and quality assurance.
  • Participate in emergency response exercises and provide medical consultation during emergency events as required.
  • Support employee health promotion, wellness initiatives, preventive medicine programs, and occupational health education.
  • Provide travel medicine consultations, immunization recommendations, and medical clearances for domestic and international travel.
  • Provide oversight of clinical documentation, electronic health records, medical record confidentiality, and regulatory reporting.
  • Collaborate with NASA leadership, Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Human Resources, and other stakeholders to support Occupational Health Program objectives.
  • Participate on committees, working groups, and multidisciplinary teams supporting workforce health and safety.
