About The Position

Western Sierra Medical Clinic is an engaging, enthusiastic, mission driven organization dedicated to providing high-quality primary care to all members of our community. This includes the delivery of evidence-based preventative care, chronic disease management, and addressing urgent care needs as indicated for our pediatric and adult patient population. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES The Medical Director will assist the Chief Medical Officer in providing direction of the clinic health care activities in consultation with the healthcare staff. The Medical Director will be committed to and engaged in the mission of the organization to improve health outcomes, provide excellent and effective customer service, build a strong, cohesive workforce, and keep the organization stable. Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director is responsible for the supervision and management of the medical aspects of patient care including the review and updating of all medical policies and procedures. Responsibilities include establishing and managing clinical programs and committees, supervision of medical staff, supervision of students, interns, and residents, and ensuring high-quality services are provided by all clinical staff. The Medical Director plays a key role in ensuring the organization’s mission, goals and values are supported and facilitated by the medical staff. The AMD is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) with overall patient care.

Requirements

  • Licensed MD, NP or PA licensed in the State of California.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Practice.
  • Experience in a clinical management position.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, approval and periodic review of the WSMC written clinical policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, and review of clinical staff.
  • Supervises and leads the Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Assure that clinical services provided are consistent with accepted current practices and standard of care.
  • Participate in and help to oversee student services, interns, and residents, including selection, coordination, and evaluations.
  • Review relevant management and financial data as directed by the CMO or CEO, including but not limited to budget, funding contracts, grants, scheduling and provider productivity.
  • Develop and oversee the provider patient schedule and provider work assignments for the assigned WSMC work site for approval by the CMO and CEO.
  • Oversee provider meetings and communication with providers including any departmental activities.
  • Assist CMO in developing external relationships with other healthcare and public organizations as directed.
  • Review patient medical records based upon approved standards and criteria.
  • Provide medical consultation as needed.
  • Facilitate the referral of patients to other health care facilities or other health care providers.
  • Documents all pertinent information in patient’s electronic medical record according to Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures.
  • Upholds Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures, infection control standards, applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Responsibilities include the establishment and management of clinical programs and committees.
  • Chairs medical staff committee meetings as required and provides professional staff support to medical committees.
  • Initiates and supervises medical care evaluation studies and is responsible for supervision of the WSMC quality assurance functions.
  • Encourages and maintains activities that ensure professional relationships between the WSMC and other community physicians, home health agencies, durable medical equipment providers, and any agency benefiting WSMC services to the community
  • Formulates and updates policies and procedures on proper drug handling, medical bylaws, and all aspects of medical care at WSMC
  • Coordinates with the Chief Executive Officer to assure that the WSMC is in compliance with all licensing, accreditation, credentialing, and local, state and federal requirements
  • Participates in WSMC employee in-services training activities
  • Coordinates with Financial Officer to ensure appropriate documentation of procedural and diagnostic coding activities.
  • Provides medical services a minimum of 25% of his/her time.
