About The Position

Brown Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced and collaborative Medical Director Veterinarian to lead their AAHA-accredited small animal practice in Peoria, Illinois. This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys surgery, mentoring others, practicing high-quality medicine, and helping grow a well-established hospital. The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, be passionate about building strong client relationships, developing team members, expanding medical and surgical services, and creating an exceptional experience for both clients and patients. As Medical Director, you will partner closely with hospital leadership to guide the medical direction of the practice while continuing to practice medicine alongside a collaborative and supportive team. Brown Animal Hospital is a full-service, AAHA-accredited companion animal practice serving the Peoria community for decades, providing comprehensive wellness care, diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, and preventive care while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture centered around exceptional patient care. The hospital believes in continuous learning, collaboration, and providing doctors with the resources and autonomy needed to practice their best medicine.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) from an accredited veterinary school
  • Active (or eligible) Illinois veterinary license
  • Strong soft tissue surgical skills
  • Passion for coaching, collaboration, and team development
  • Growth mindset with a desire to help expand the practice
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to progressive, evidence-based medicine

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership or mentorship experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical leadership while maintaining an active clinical caseload
  • Perform routine and advanced soft tissue surgeries
  • Mentor and support associate veterinarians and support staff
  • Promote medical excellence and uphold standards of patient care
  • Partner with hospital leadership to support hospital growth and strategic initiatives
