About The Position

ArkVets is seeking a Medical Director / Veterinarian (DVM) for its largest, newest, and most fully equipped hospital located in North Phoenix. This role combines practicing veterinary medicine with clinical leadership responsibilities. The hospital is purpose-built, 8,600 sq ft, and features advanced equipment including endoscopy, digital radiography, and ultrasound. The position offers a unique opportunity to practice high-quality medicine in a supportive environment with engaged clients. The Medical Director will set the standard of medicine, mentor junior staff, contribute to protocols, and partner with ownership on practice growth. The role emphasizes a low-stress, fear-free-inspired approach to care, with a mix of general practice and urgent care. There is no mandatory on-call duty, and shift coverage is voluntary.

Requirements

  • Arizona veterinary license in good standing prior to start date.
  • 3+ years of practice experience preferred.
  • Availability between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., with some weekends and holidays.
  • Genuine communication skills and a good attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership, mentorship, or medical-director experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a practicing DVM, handling approximately 18 appointments per day on clinical days and 1-2 surgery days per week.
  • Provide general practice care mixed with dedicated urgent care.
  • Act as the clinical leader of the hospital.
  • Set the standard of medicine for the hospital.
  • Mentor junior doctors and technicians.
  • Contribute to protocols across all three ArkVets locations.
  • Partner directly with ownership on practice growth and direction.
  • Ensure honest communication with clients about their pets' care without pressure.
  • Contribute to a low-stress, fear-free-inspired care environment.
  • Participate in voluntary shift coverage when needed.
