About The Position

The Medical Director, Rare Immunology is an individual contributor role focused on Pfizer’s immunoglobulin portfolio, myositis and related therapeutic areas, spanning current in-line medicines and pipeline assets. The position will be responsible for serving as a therapeutic area medical and scientific expert, shaping and executing US medical strategy, supporting payer access initiatives, collaborating with field medical on tactical execution, training and external engagement, ensuring the scientific accuracy of promotional and non-promotional materials, and translating clinical insights into medical education and engagement that reflects the patient and physician perspective. This role will work closely with field medical, global medical affairs, international medical affairs, clinical development, HEOR, commercial, regulatory, and legal cross-functional partners, and will report to the US Immunoglobulins Medical Lead.

Requirements

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Doctoral degree in clinical/pharmacy specialty (Ph.D., Pharm.D) and 5+ years’ experience required; Master’s degree with 7+ years required; Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience required.
  • Broad expertise in medical affairs and strong experience with regulatory and/or safety risk management issues.
  • Experience in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and enthusiastic manner required.
  • Must work well on multiple tasks and effectively prioritize to meet personal and team goals in a complex matrixed team environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in immunology, including immunoglobulins and myositis, preferred
  • Understanding of the drug development process
  • Knowledge of health care economics and its impact on medical decision making

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the therapeutic areas and medicines and be a reliable, trusted resource of accurate, current medical and scientific knowledge (e.g.: disease states, product label, statistics interpretation, etc.), including competitive medicines, for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues from field medical, HEOR, digital, US medical information, regulatory, legal, commercial, and relevant internal colleagues to enhance and deliver upon US medical plan(s) as appropriate
  • Supports payer access initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional partners (e.g., HEOR, Market Access, Value & Evidence) to address evidence needs and payer-facing medical strategy within the therapeutic area(s)
  • Serves as a Medical Affairs reviewer within the U.S. Review Committee (& Global upon request), supporting scientific accuracy and compliance of promotional and non‑promotional materials in collaboration with Legal, Regulatory, and Marketing colleagues.
  • Objectively interpret technical information to deliver value-added education to assigned teams and to drive understanding and effectively communicate current scientific knowledge, including unmet medical needs, to different stakeholders, adapting the communication for the audience as appropriate
  • Proactively bring patients' & physicians' voice to the development and execution of impactful medical tactics
  • Provides scientific input into the development of medical and educational content, ensuring accuracy, clinical relevance, and alignment with medical strategy, and incorporating medical insights from Field Medical and customer interactions, as appropriate
  • Supports the customer insights process, collaborating with Field Medical and internal stakeholders (including Global and International Medical Affairs) to incorporate insights into medical activities and content, and participating in advisory boards or other insight‑generation activities, as appropriate.
  • Supports therapeutic area and product training needs by delivering scientific training to new cross‑functional colleagues and supporting training related to new medical content, as appropriate.
  • Partners with appropriate cross-functional partners to execute US Medical strategic/operating plan in a collaborative and compliant manner
  • Provide critical and objective review of Medical Education Grants and Investigator Initiated Research proposals
  • Compliantly interact with external professional organizations to identify, characterize, and address unmet medical needs and awareness/education gaps
  • Effectively manage vendors and budgets (track/forecast) within policy and timelines
  • Leads or contributes to the US strategic/operating plan
  • Compliant with all required SOPs and compliance training
  • Monitor global trends to identify unmet medical needs within the therapeutic area
  • Coordinate external stakeholder interactions and activities compliantly
