About The Position

Physiatrist (PM&R) will report to the Chief Medical Officer for clinical matters and the Hospital Chief Executive Officer or his or her designee for administrative matters. This full-time position involves providing professional medical services to patients, including rounding and consultations. The role requires collaboration with facility leadership and staff to develop and evaluate patient care policies and procedures, and to identify and resolve medical and clinical concerns. Responsibilities include the evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and management of patients with physical and/or cognitive impairments and disabilities, including pain management, co-morbidities, injection procedures, and electro-diagnostic medicine. The position also involves assessing and stabilizing patients with emergent conditions, performing physical examinations, and developing treatment plans. The Medical Director will admit patients, perform history and physical examinations, conduct pre-admission assessments, review and approve pre-admission screenings, and lead interdisciplinary team conferences. Accurate and complete medical record maintenance is essential, complying with all regulatory, legal, and accrediting standards. Administrative services may also be required.

Requirements

  • Must possess M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Must hold current state medical license.
  • Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Current practice in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification or active participation in the examination process leading to certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, is preferred.
  • Prior experience as Medical Director/leadership preferred.

  • Assist with medical education as requested, including curriculum development, supervision and performance evaluations, daily rounds, lectures, demonstrations, informal discussions, and continuing education to attending Medical Staff, the nursing staff, and the therapy staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional medical services on a full-time basis to patients of assigned hospital(s).
  • Perform services customarily performed by physicians practicing in the specialty of physical and rehabilitation medicine, including rounding and consultations.
  • Collaborate with Facility leadership, staff, and other practitioners to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care policies and procedures.
  • Help the Facility identify, evaluate, and address medical and clinical concerns affecting patient care, medical care, or quality of life.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and manage patients with physical and/or cognitive impairment and disability.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with painful or functionally limiting conditions.
  • Manage co-morbidities and co-impairments.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injection procedures.
  • Utilize electro-diagnostic medicine.
  • Emphasize the prevention of complications of disability from secondary conditions.
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with Medical Staff Policy.
  • Perform physical examinations of pain, weakness, and numbness (neuromuscular and musculoskeletal).
  • Develop a diagnostic plan or prescription for treatment, which may include physical agents or other interventions.
  • Evaluate, prescribe, and supervise medical and comprehensive rehabilitation goals and treatment plans.
  • Admit patients to inpatient or other levels of care for treatment.
  • Perform general history and physical examinations.
  • Perform pre-admission assessments.
  • Perform day 4 Plan of Care reviews.
  • Review and approve pre-admission screenings.
  • Perform Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Procedures.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and competent professional services in accordance with generally accepted professional standards.
  • Perform administrative services as reasonably required.
  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate medical and other records in compliance with mandated regulatory, legal, and/or accrediting standards.
  • Complete Pre-Admission Screenings (PAS), Individualized Plan of Care (IPOC), Leading the interdisciplinary team conference, Progress Notes which include face-to-face visits, Admission Orders, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI), and other records, reports, claims, and correspondence.
