Responsibilities

  • Review departmental operational metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Review and monitor key clinical performance indicators, including: Length of stay, Door-to-provider times, Left without being seen (LWBS) rates, Admission and transfer metrics, Return visits, Patient safety events.
  • Partner with nursing and administrative leadership to improve patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes.
  • Monitor productivity, staffing effectiveness, and provider performance.
  • Participate in strategic planning and growth initiatives for pediatric emergency services.
  • Lead departmental quality improvement (QI) and patient safety initiatives.
  • Participate in development and implementation of evidence-based clinical pathways and best practices.
  • Participate in peer review and case review activities.
  • Act as a key participant in root cause analyses and corrective action plans following significant events.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital standards.
  • Develop and maintain physician and advanced practice provider schedules.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet patient demand and operational goals.
  • Manage schedule adjustments and coverage needs.
  • Coordinate onboarding and integration of new providers.
  • Collaborate with staffing and recruiting teams to maintain adequate workforce coverage.
  • Lead physician and APP recruitment efforts.
  • Conduct candidate interviews and participate in hiring decisions.
  • Develop retention strategies to promote provider engagement and satisfaction.
  • Mentor new clinicians and facilitate professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive departmental culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and performance coaching to physicians and APPs.
  • Conduct formal performance evaluations.
  • Develop improvement plans when performance deficiencies are identified.
  • Address professionalism concerns and behavioral issues.
  • Participate in disciplinary actions consistent with hospital and organizational policies.
  • Recognize and reward exemplary performance.
  • Review patient experience data and satisfaction metrics.
  • Lead initiatives designed to improve patient and family experience.
  • Investigate and respond to patient complaints and concerns as appropriate.
  • Promote communication strategies that enhance patient and family engagement.
  • Collaborate with nursing and ancillary services to improve the overall care experience.
  • Support continuing medical education and professional growth of providers.
  • Participate in educational activities for physicians, APPs, nurses, residents, and students.
  • Promote pediatric emergency preparedness and competency throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate implementation of new clinical guidelines and educational initiatives.
  • Represent the pediatric emergency department on hospital committees and leadership councils.
  • Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists, hospitalists, intensivists, EMS agencies, and referring providers.
  • Support community outreach and pediatric emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Participate in business development and service line growth activities.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting and resource planning.
  • Monitor productivity, staffing costs, and operational performance.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-effective care delivery while maintaining quality standards.
  • Support initiatives that improve departmental financial performance.
