About The Position
Are you an experienced veterinarian ready to lead a collaborative medical team while enjoying no weekends and being home for dinner ? SPCA Florida is seeking a Medical Director for our Medical Center and Shelter Medical Department in Lakeland . Lakeland offers a great quality of life with sunshine year-round and is conveniently located less than an hour from the beaches, Tampa International Airport , and the attractions of Orlando . Florida also has no state income tax , and Lakeland remains one of the fastest-growing and most affordable cities in the U.S. Our veterinary team works Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, in a supportive, mission-driven environment where no pet is turned away due to lack of funds . Enjoy the best of both worlds—shelter medicine and public veterinary care—helping our community’s animals in every department. Last year, our team of 5 veterinarians and skilled technicians provided care for 15,905 pets using state-of-the-art equipment, including: Digital radiology In-house IDEXX laboratory Laser therapy Ultrasonography Digital dental radiology We are also a teaching campus for senior veterinary students from Lincoln Memorial University , fostering a dynamic, collaborative learning environment. Our campus also operates as an animal shelter that finds homes for approximately 4,500 pets each year and supports community programs and disaster response through Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FL SARC), a Federal Emergency Management Agency-approved response team. Requirements
- DVM or VMD from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
- Active, unrestricted veterinary license (or ability to obtain)
- DEA license or ability to obtain
- 5–10 years of canine and feline practice experience
- Leadership and mentorship skills
- Passion for high-quality patient care
