About The Position

The Medical Director of Survivorship provides clinical and strategic leadership for survivorship services across the Jefferson Health’s Cancer Service Line and Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC). Operating at an enterprise level across all Jefferson Health network nodes, this physician leader ensures the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care to cancer survivors throughout the post-treatment continuum. The role integrates clinical oversight, program development, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary collaboration, with an administrative effort of 20%.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an LCME- or AOA-accredited medical school
  • Board certification in Medical Oncology (ABIM or AOA equivalent) required
  • Active, unrestricted medical licensure in Pennsylvania (and additional Jefferson Health states as applicable)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of post-training clinical experience in oncology
  • Familiarity with comorbidity management and dual-diagnosis frameworks in the oncology population required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cancer survivorship, supportive oncology, or a related subspecialty strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory, program leadership, or administrative experience preferred
  • Familiarity with CoC survivorship standards, ASCO/NCCN survivorship guidelines, and relevant accreditation requirements preferred
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems; Epic experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage the ongoing medical needs of survivorship program patients, with particular attention to treatment-related late and long-term effects
  • Conduct comprehensive survivorship assessments and develop individualized Survivorship Care Plans (SCPs) consistent with ASCO, NCCN, and Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medications and treatment schedules as clinically indicated
  • Coordinate specialist referrals, subspecialty consultation, or inpatient admission when medically necessary
  • Address co-occurring conditions common in the survivor population, including cardiovascular toxicity, endocrine dysfunction, psychosocial morbidity, fertility and sexual health concerns, and secondary malignancy surveillance
  • Participate in tumor boards, multidisciplinary care conferences, and survivorship-focused case reviews across Jefferson Health network sites as appropriate.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Supportive Oncology Division Director to identify emerging patient needs, care gaps, and evidence-based clinical interventions across all network nodes
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements governing the medical care components of the survivorship program (CoC, Pennsylvania Department of Health, Jefferson Health policy)
  • Participate in regularly scheduled multidisciplinary staff conferences; review and co-sign treatment plans, clinical documentation, and diagnostic assessments as required
  • Provide direct mentorship and oversight of medical residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers (APPs) engaged in survivorship program activities
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, outcomes tracking, and performance metrics development for survivorship services across the enterprise
  • Collaborate with research staff and clinical trialists to facilitate survivorship-related research, including clinical trial enrollment and survivorship-focused investigator-initiated studies
  • Support program visibility through participation in institutional strategic planning, community outreach programming, and philanthropic efforts as appropriate
  • Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for enterprise-wide survivorship policy development and educational initiatives.
