About The Position

The Researcher 1 will support the laboratory of Dr. Xue Han, Assistant Professor in Microbial Infection & Immunity and member of the OSUCCC–James Translational Therapeutics Program. Dr. Han’s research centers on identifying novel immunomodulatory pathways, particularly the immune checkpoint molecule PD‑1H (VISTA), to understand mechanisms of immune escape in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, improve anti‑cancer immunity, and address immune-related adverse events from immunotherapy. The Researcher 1 will participate in planning, executing, and analyzing laboratory studies using molecular and cellular techniques. This role directly supports projects investigating tumor‑infiltrating immune cells, immunosuppressive signaling, and the development of therapeutic strategies targeting PD‑1H/VISTA for cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML), glioblastoma, and other tumors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or health sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to translate and apply academic knowledge in biological/health science research.
  • Experience in a research capacity preferred.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental work supporting studies of immune checkpoint pathways (e.g., PD‑1H/VISTA) using molecular biology, flow cytometry, tissue culture, PCR, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret immunology and cancer biology datasets, including those assessing T‑cell activation, tumor immune evasion, and immunosuppressive signaling.
  • Assist in developing and optimizing new methodologies.
  • Perform literature reviews in tumor immunology, immune checkpoints, AML, glioma, and immunotherapy; and contribute to manuscripts, grant proposals, and research presentations.
  • Support lab safety and compliance, ensuring adherence to institutional and federal research guidelines.
  • Assist in daily lab operations, including equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, and training students or staff on experimental techniques.
  • Perform additional duties to support ongoing research needs within the Han Lab.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision coverage, with Ohio State paying a significant portion of the cost.
  • Paid time off, including sick and vacation time and 11 holidays.
  • State retirement plan or an alternative retirement plan, both with generous employer contributions.
