About The Position

The role of the Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nurse Clinician is a consultative one and is intended to collaborate with and support staff in non mental health areas of the hospital in their care and treatment of patients with behavioural and/or psychiatric/mental health concerns.

Requirements

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse
  • CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the College of Nurses Professional Standards of Practice and Standards of Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nursing Practice
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ recent experience in acute mental health
  • Current experience in medicine and geriatric fields
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Certificate or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric needs of medically ill patients
  • Demonstrates a patient focused attitude toward care
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of DSM V classification, psychopharmacology, and psychiatric/mental health legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication, both written and verbal
  • Commitment to customer service and teamwork
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an expected requirement of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and support staff in non mental health areas of the hospital in their care and treatment of patients with behavioural and/or psychiatric/mental health concerns.
  • Coordinate patient care, involving the client, family, other disciplines and collateral agencies.
  • Perform patient assessment with a delirium and dementia diagnosis.
  • Perform risk assessment including suicide and self-harm risks.
  • Teach/educate patients and staff.
  • Lead initiatives and projects.
  • Analyze and assess problems.
  • Model behavior aligned with the values of Southlake Health.
  • Work safely and promote health and safety in the workplace.
  • Attend work regularly as per the Attendance Support Policy.
