Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Required Certifications: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) credential (Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H))
- 1+ years of Ancillary experience
- 1+ years of ICD-10 experience
- Intermediate level of understanding of National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI)/Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE) basics and facility modifier awareness
Nice To Haves
- Experience with EHR systems
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Responsibilities
- Codes ancillary facility encounters such as clinic, recurring accounts, lab, therapy, and radiology
- Confirms documentation supports code selection and resolves facility edits and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) impacts
- Applies International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes
- Meets established quality and productivity standards in a production environment
