About The Position

Provide expert clinical review for accuracy and completeness of data concerning structural birth defects collected in large, multi-center birth defects case-control studies. Use medical record data and other collected health information to determine the full spectrum of possible adverse infant and child outcomes associated with prenatal exposures including neurodevelopmental sequelae, birth defects, and congenital heart defects among affected infants and children. Provide input, advice, and support to SET-NET, birth defects surveillance, and congenital heart defect related activities including the preparation of reports, presentations, and papers for publication in scientific journals and the development of guidance and other communication materials for a clinical audience. Provide expert clinical review for accuracy and completeness of birth defects surveillance and congenital heart defect data and support efforts to maintain and improve data quality through training and ongoing assessments including review of processes and procedures, clarification of case definitions, and review of data submission requirements. Support clinical components of the program, including mentoring of clinicians and scientific staff involved with collection and interpretation of clinical data.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency Program
  • Current board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of clinical experience as a board-certified or board-eligible Pediatrician
  • Demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of congenital anomalies, birth defects, congenital heart defects, or pediatric neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in public health, epidemiology, clinical research, or population health, preferably supporting maternal and child health, birth defects surveillance, or congenital conditions.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting complex pediatric medical records and clinical data to assess congenital anomalies, prenatal exposures, and infant and child health outcomes.
  • Experience supporting public health surveillance programs, disease registries, or multi-site epidemiologic studies, including ensuring data quality, accuracy, and adherence to standardized case definitions.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including epidemiologists, biostatisticians, geneticists, clinicians, and public health professionals, to analyze and interpret clinical data.
  • Experience contributing to scientific publications, technical reports, presentations, and clinical guidance documents for professional and public health audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience working with clinicians, researchers, or public health staff and providing clinical expertise to support surveillance, research, or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience using clinical databases, and health information systems to support clinical review, surveillance, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex clinical information into actionable public health recommendations.
