About The Position

The Center for Orthopedic Research and Education (CORE) is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant. This role is crucial in facilitating communication between patients and providers, preparing patients for visits, and ensuring efficient clinic operations.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate; OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
  • BLS certification required.
  • High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
  • Experience with orthopedics

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care by collecting and sharing pertinent information and acting on provider directives.
  • Prepares patients for visits by rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, setting up for procedures, preparing for injections, and accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Completes tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
  • Maintains exam room standards, including restocking, cleaning rooms and tables as needed.
  • Monitors and replaces biohazard and sharps containers as needed.
  • Assists the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA).
  • Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
  • Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verifies outstanding testing results in EMR, confirms patient appropriateness for the provider (body part and/or insurance), and notes imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit.
  • Scans clinical documents into EMR.
  • Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Acts as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
  • Creates and promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Maintains a HIPAA compliant environment.
  • Maintains a clean workspace.
