The Center for Women’s Health and Wellness located at 67 Corporate Drive in Portsmouth, NH offers comprehensive, personalized care for all stages of a woman's life in an atmosphere of privacy and trust. Our team of expert providers and specialists at OB/GYN and Infertility take a thoughtful approach to provide high-quality compassionate care in the areas of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Urogynecology, Infertility and LGBTQ+ care. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to support our Women's Health Center team on Monday- Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. The primary location will be in Portsmouth with Thursday's supporting the Dover practice. We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned practices and locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances for cross-coverage purposes and to ensure adequate coverage and support. The Medical Assistant plays a key role in maintaining efficient patient flow and delivering comprehensive clinical support. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, performing point-of-care testing, documenting patient information, and assisting with procedures. This role requires the ability to manage a broad scope of responsibilities, maintain steady patient flow, and adapt to supporting multiple providers, while demonstrating strong clinical judgment, reliability, and a proactive, team-oriented approach. Job Summary The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • experience in ambulatory or specialty care settings
  • familiarity with EMR systems (such as EPIC)
  • ability to support providers in a 1:1 or team-based model while maintaining efficient patient flow and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
