About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is a key member of the team and works closely with the physician to deliver excellent patient care while providing services within the scope of medical assisting and applicable state guidelines. The role includes reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations. The position is with Mercy Health’s Lima Neurology specialty care department.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active medical assisting certification from an accepted organization: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA. If unable to obtain MA certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; it is preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills and basic computer skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage professionally with staff and patients.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience; preferred but not required.
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office; preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform departmental clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
