About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a physician to provide excellent patient care to the community. The role ensures services are performed within the Medical Assisting scope of practice and applicable state guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations. This position is in the SRPS Neurology - MHP Lima Specialty Care department and is scheduled for 40 hours per week on days/evenings.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active Medical Assisting certification from an accepted organization is required: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA.
• If unable to obtain MA certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• BLS Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills and basic computer skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage with staff and patients professionally.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience.
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification at hire for BSMH.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform departmental clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
