About The Position

The Indiana Skin Cancer Center, a partner of Optima Dermatology, is recruiting a full-time Medical Assistant to join their team in Greenwood, IN. The center's mission is to provide the highest quality, compassionate care for those requiring dermatologic surgery, focusing on patient comfort and utilizing state-of-the-art techniques.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability in taking patient vitals, injection/immunization procedures, charting and documentation, exam room preparation, infectious waste handling, sterile techniques, and routine lab procedures and collection.
  • Oral communication skills needed to develop patient rapport and discuss orders with patients, their families, and pharmacies.
  • Written communication skills necessary for charting and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability in handling patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with peers in a team situation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Licensed medical assistant.
  • Minimum of one year of previous experience in a dermatology medical office.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares exam rooms for patient use by cleaning and stocking supplies. Prepares procedure trays as necessary.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms, checks vital signs, interviews patients to assess needs, records relevant information, and instructs patients on preparation for examination.
  • Prepares specimens for analysis by packaging, completing requisition forms, and contacting testing facilities.
  • Schedules on-site and off-site diagnostic tests and procedures, providing patients with preparation instructions and tracking results.
  • Facilitates referrals to other physicians by contacting their offices, making appointments, and forwarding necessary test results.
  • Contacts hospitals and outside sources for lab results, x-ray results, and ER reports; phones pharmacies to authorize prescriptions; contacts nursing homes regarding patient orders; contacts patients to relay test result information; and returns patient phone calls with physician recommendations.
  • Pre-certifies medications and referrals by contacting insurance professionals and providing requested information. Records pre-certification numbers and tracks referrals.
  • Takes manual inventory of drugs, checks expiration dates, and orders replenishments. Orders supplies for the back office.
  • Disinfects exam rooms and lab areas and straightens the reception area daily.
  • Performs all duties with respect for the confidentiality and safety of all patients, employees, and physicians.
  • Communicates with the physician and office manager on all issues vital to the practice's improvement and success.
