About The Position

As an integral part of the Clinical office staff, Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties. This role involves obtaining intake information for a specific patient population, performing delegated tasks and treatments, and providing direct patient care as required. Responsibilities include scheduling physician-ordered tests and procedures, and offering limited patient education related to these services. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Graduate of a medical assistant program
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant from AAMA, NHA, NCCT, NAHP, ARMA, AMT.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with patients of all education levels.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to set own priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to utilize electronic health record software

Nice To Haves

  • Seven - eleven months equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in population appropriate communication, understanding growth and development milestones, and providing clear instructions to patients/families. Involves family/guardian in patient care, identifies and addresses physical limitations, and responds appropriately to behavioral health issues. Interprets population-related data and plans care accordingly, recognizing and responding to unique psychological needs or cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication, and operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Assists in the implementation of age-appropriate care for specific patient populations, including direct patient care as part of the clinical team.
  • Obtains vital signs, EKGs, laboratory specimens, and other necessary information for patient evaluation in accordance with Medical Assistant competencies, utilizing universal precautions.
  • Assists the provider in documenting notes, orders, and prescriptions within the Electronic Medical Record, pending provider review and signature.
  • Prepares and maintains the clinic area, including cleaning and stocking examination rooms, daily setup and securing of computer equipment, and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.
  • Returns routine patient telephone calls, such as prescription refills or pre-certification for medication, as directed from the Electronic Medical Record, with appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinates ancillary services, including diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures/admissions, additional patient visits, and acquisition of pertinent medical records.
  • Maintains a positive, professional, and cooperative demeanor in all interactions with patients, staff, physicians, and management.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations, and protecting patient confidentiality. Understands and adheres to legal responsibilities and requirements of the medical assistant role. Seeks knowledge of quality measures and patient experience.
