About The Position

Vanguard Skin Specialists is seeking a Front Office/Back Office Medical Assistant who shares their mission of making a positive impact on patients, the community, and the world. This unique hybrid role offers variety, allowing the individual to work directly alongside providers in clinic supporting patient care and procedures, as well as focusing on patient coordination and administrative support. The ideal candidate is a medical assistant who wants to step up and fill key gaps in the clinic while having stable hours week-to-week, cross-covering in administrative areas. Some weeks/months may be heavier clinical MA work, and some weeks/months may be more stable administrative work. The practice is described as remarkably efficient and busy, requiring the ability to juggle many tasks while maintaining efficiency and ensuring all small details are accounted for. Superhuman organization and attention to detail are a must. The team operates with a one-team mentality, and reliability is crucial.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in a medical assistant role
  • Proven track record of working well on teams and delivering excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Alignment with the values and mission of Vanguard Skin Specialists.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified/registered medical assistant preferred but not required
  • Customer service experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, take detailed medical history, document medications, and confirm the reason for visit.
  • Take vitals as needed and document appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate patient reason for visit and medical summary to medical providers accurately and efficiently.
  • Act as a chaperone for the provider examination.
  • Scribe during the visit, accurately documenting areas examined, notable findings, treatment plan, recommended medications, and recommended procedures.
  • Assist providers in dermatology/plastic surgery specific procedures including administering local anesthesia, blotting during surgeries/biopsies, cutting suture, and bandaging post-procedure.
  • Speak with patients over the phone regarding biopsy results, medication prior authorization status, and other patient questions and concerns.
  • Document calls and prior authorizations in the EMR.
  • High-volume scheduling over the phone across all offices.
  • Assist with patient and doctor requests over the phone.
  • Triage referrals to determine priority and how to schedule.
  • Send outbound referrals in a timely manner, ensuring all adequate documentation and paperwork is sent for coordinated care.
  • Track pathology results with accuracy and communicate benign and malignant results with compassion.
  • Verify insurance benefits and communicate cost information with patients.
