About The Position

This role involves providing essential support in a medical setting, focusing on patient care, administrative tasks, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment. The Medical Assistant will perform basic nursing functions under physician supervision, assist with procedures, manage patient records, and ensure compliance with regulations. The position emphasizes interdisciplinary communication, patient education, and adherence to aseptic techniques. Marginal functions include inventory management, equipment maintenance, and general office duties.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinic/physician office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and assess emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Function within the guidelines of various payor regulations.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and utilize the healthcare team for patient assessment.
  • Assess and address the learning needs of patients and their families, providing accurate information.
  • Evaluate patient and family understanding of treatment plans and instructions.
  • Assist with procedures, exams, and operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures, and medication administration.
  • Accurately document all patient interactions in the patient record.
  • Report results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.
  • Function within the limitations of license or certification.
  • Perform basic nursing functions such as taking vitals, rooming patients, and assisting with procedures under physician supervision.
  • Maintain the professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
  • Maintain supply inventory and stock supplies.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocols, identify problems, and coordinate repairs.
  • Perform miscellaneous office duties such as copying, filing, and retrieving films/medical records.
  • Assist with nursing chart audits.
