About The Position

Functions as a member of the clinic patient care team performing clinical tasks and procedures to support the delivery of care. Provides administrative support to the clinic. Support the organization's mission, vision and values by adhering to the behavioral standards of Bay Area Hospital. Comply with all laws and regulations affecting Bay Area Hospital. Be familiar with and adhere to the Bay Area Hospital Code of Conduct and Compliance Program. Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from various backgrounds are critical.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position

  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Medical Terminology
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS), required
  • Certified Medical Assistant or obtain within 16 months of hire, required
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking
  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment
  • Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone

Nice To Haves

  • College level education in secretarial sciences preferred
  • Completion of basic medical terminology preferred
  • Prior clinic experience preferred
  • One (1) year recent medical assistant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for the Bay Area Hospital Ambulatory Services staff, including physicians
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; provides examination gowns and drapes; assists in positioning patients for the examination
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing the patient; reviews and/or records medical history and current medications, takes accurate patient weight, vital signs, and confirms the purpose of the visit or treatment
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations
  • Performs EKGs as ordered, prepares for physician interpretation, assists in maintaining EKG equipment and supplies
  • Organizes patient scheduling, prepares patient charts, retrieves and files patient medical records, x-rays, and other medical images
  • Maintains all files and keeps filing up-to-date
  • Collects blood specimens from patients of all ranges of age and uses correct tubes and handling for appropriate testing and labels specimens accurately
  • Answers multi-lined telephone system, takes telephone referrals, schedules patient appointments
  • Provides secretarial/receptionist services in an efficient and professional manner
  • Prepares daily patient billing (professional and technical) and enters charges into computer systems as needed
  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly statistics
  • Types memorandums, committee minutes, manuals, letters, forms, procedures and other general typing as requested
  • Contacts insurance providers, obtaining appropriate referral numbers, pre-authorizations, and pre-certifications
  • Works with the Hospital and Ambulatory Services computer systems, registers patients, obtains admission and billing information, orders lab work, and distributed reports
  • Assists the director in developing, preparing and documenting State, Federal and Joint Commission requirements
  • Orders office supplies as necessary
  • Ensures assigned areas are adequately stocked, cleaned and organized
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshoots breakdowns, maintains supplies, performs preventative maintenance and calls for repairs, if necessary
