About The Position

Beloit Health System is adding a Medical Assistant to our team at Beloit Clinic - NorthPointe Pain Management. This position is benefits-eligible and works 32 hours per week on the 1st shift (8a-5p). The Medical Assistant will assist licensed healthcare professionals with various tasks including rooming patients, managing patient flow, returning phone calls, taking patient histories and vital signs, administering medications, assisting with procedures and treatments, maintaining medical records, stocking rooms, and assisting in medical emergencies. Responsibilities also include scheduling appointments, completing pre-certifications, filling out patient forms (FMLA, short-term/long-term disability), refilling medications per protocol, ordering supplies, and cleaning exam rooms. The Medical Assistant will prepare patient documentation and electronic medical records, escort patients to rooms, obtain vitals, update medical records with history, medications, allergies, etc., and collect meaningful use data. They will prepare patients for examinations, ensure consent is signed, and perform 'Time out' with the Physician/LIP. The role involves assisting the Physician/LIP with examinations and procedures, administering ordered medications, and maintaining accurate electronic medical records. The Medical Assistant will handle telephone calls, triage calls under supervision, and assist with patient/family education. They must demonstrate effectiveness and courtesy in scheduling, ensure patient safety during medication handling and transport, and protect patients from hazards. The role requires reviewing basic physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families, adhering to infection control policies, efficiently navigating computer software, performing unit-specific duties, participating in quality assurance, ensuring adequate supplies, and completing assigned duties in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Certified or Registered as Medical Assistant at time of employment
  • Must be CPR certified within 3 months of hire
  • Strong critical thinking abilities
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication and counseling skills
  • Requires knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Employee must possess the training, knowledge, and skills necessary to perform one or more of the following activities (evaluation, treatment, and/or patient care) for patients in one or more of the following age groups: pediatric, adolescent and geriatric
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Two years clinical experience desirable
  • Preferred Experience with Electronic Medical Records and prior experience in Pain Management.
  • May require working some irregular hours

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient documentation and medical record in preparation for appointment.
  • Escort patient to room, obtains vitals and updates medical record, which would include a brief medical history or chief complaint, current medication, allergies, smoking status, pain status, immunization status, and all meaningful use data collection.
  • Prepare patient for examination or procedure.
  • Ensure consent is signed and dated for procedures and performs "Time out" with Physician/LIP when appropriate.
  • Assist Physician/LIP with examinations and/or procedures.
  • Administer medications ordered by Physicians/LIP and update medical record after administering medication.
  • Maintain and update accurate electronic medical record.
  • Receive and handle telephone calls to department.
  • Assist with triaging calls under the supervision of a licensed health care professional.
  • Assist Physician/LIP with educating the patient and families.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness and courtesy in scheduling patients for appointments.
  • Ensure patient safety while handling, transporting and providing medications to patients; protects patients from various hazards, falls, disease exposure, etc.
  • Review basic physical, psychological and social needs of patients and their families.
  • Adhere to infection control policies.
  • Demonstrate ability to navigate efficiently computer software applicable to department.
  • Perform unit specific duties according to established unit-based competencies.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure appropriate supplies are on hand
  • Assure timely completion of assigned duties.
