About The Position

New York Health is hiring a Medical Assistant for its OBGYN team. The role floats among locations in Port Jefferson, Patchogue, Smithtown, and Wading River, New York. The schedule is five 8.5-hour days, Monday through Friday, with shifts scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The Medical Assistant supports patient care and office procedures by managing patient intakes, collecting and processing specimens, recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting physicians during visits. The role also includes sterilizing medical equipment, supporting data entry, and performing EKGs and point-of-care testing.

Requirements

• Medical Assistant Certificate.
• High school diploma.
• Knowledge of standard precautions and ability to use appropriate PPE when handling bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Reliable transportation to travel to New York Health locations for patient care needs.
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods, as well as stand, bend, and reach.

• Proficiency with an EMR system.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient intakes and accurately record information.
• Collect and process laboratory specimens, including venipuncture and diagnostic tests.
• Record patients’ vital signs.
• Prepare patients for examinations.
• Sterilize medical equipment and instruments.
• Assist providers and other support staff with data entry.
• Assist physicians during visits, examinations, and office procedures.
• Perform EKGs and point-of-care testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
